I first visited Allen's back in the 80's, not long after it opened, and I was instantly smitten. So much so, in fact that I moved into the neighbourhood! First I was a regular, then a nuisance, and finally a piece of furniture. I finally moved back to Markham in 1998, and cannot justify going anywhere south of Steeles Avenue without stopping into Allen's for lunch. The food is imaginative, superbly prepared, and so delicious, that even when I'm full, I often look at the menu again, just to see what I'll be ordering on my next visit! And the patio? A bit pricey, but really a wonderful experience overall. One thing to note is the two-hour limit on dining, which is best to know about in advance. This is the best fish and chips that I've ever tried in Toronto. (I went there on the advice of a friend and would have never have gone here without that recommendation). It's a very unassuming place, with fairly drab surroundings. But the fish is top notch, with large portions at a good price. I don't really know what else to say besides that. This place has a great atmosphere. The music wasn't too loud, so casual dining was nice. Our server (we believe his name was Matt, he had an accent) was very knowledgable and wasn't overly trying to upsell constantly. The food was fantastic and tasted great.
