His friends told him he was crazy, but when celebrity chef Massimo Capra gets an idea stuck in his Italian-Canadian head, it’s hard to shake. “People warned me that ‘the 905’ might not be the right place for my next venture, but I had a feeling they were wrong," says Massimo. "I don’t care who you are or where you live, everyone appreciates great food. Right?” His hunch paid off; line-ups formed nightly outside of his new Mississauga restaurant even before it had officially launched. Capra’s Kitchen was an instant success.
No doubt Massimo's track record as restaurateur, cookbook author and Food Network personality contributed to the immediate appeal of his new restaurant. Prior to Capra’s Kitchen, this effervescent entrepreneur had already launched several successful restaurants, most notably Toronto’s popular Mistura and Sopra, and Pearson Airport’s Boccone. Some might wonder why a guy at this stage of his career would even bother to open one more…but Massimo has good reason.
Portions were small and mediocre at best. Would not substitute mushrooms (wife is allergic to them) and had to remove the onions because they were sauteed together. Entree was a 6oz. steak on a thin bed of mash potatoes. Would not serve bread even though i asked to pay extra. they reversed the desserts and all I got was a smile and an apology. This is our 4'th time there and our last.
