Bhawana Clark is a painter. Instead of using oils or acrylics, however, semi-precious gemstones are her medium of choice. “Gemstones are like paint. Once I have all the stones in front of me, I can start designing,” she explains. Bhawana began designing jewellery around 2002, so she could earn money while staying at home and raising her son. She later launched her business with a trip to Bali. “I had this idea for a pendant,” Bhawana recalls. “I asked a Bali silversmith if he could make it. It was fantastic.” She also purchased sarongs, straw hats and puka shells she hoped to re-sell in Calgary. Upon her return, however, her pendants sold out, while other merchandise didn’t move. Buoyed by this partial success, Bhawana returned to Bali and designed some more pieces, which also subsequently sold out. And her line of sterling-and-stone jewellery was born.
Jewellery designer Bhwanna Clark stocks her eponymous Inglewood store with a wide array of sterling silver jewellery. Her pieces feature Indian gemstones, especially those such as citrine, which is said to have restorative power. The shop also carries women’s clothing and handbags.
