Where to pick Canada’s best berries

July 15, 2020

Sweet strawberries, ripe raspberries and beautiful blueberries are a true taste of summer. We’re a nation of berry lovers—including cherries, currants and the lesser-known saskatoon berries—and we love a trip to the berry patch to harvest our own. Whether it’s a family outing with the kids or a creative daytime date idea, a visit to a U-pick berry farm near you is a must.

Most farms are now open, but with new safety procedures in place. Farms are limiting the number of guests in the field, while some require advance booking. Many farms now prohibit BYO containers, and government restrictions are clear about sampling in the field: it’s a big no-no. This year, wash your berries first, to enjoy them safely.

What will you do with those freshly picked berries? Try making jams and jellies, pies, tarts and fruit cobblers, stuffed French toast, breakfast muffins and frozen yogurt. Picked more berries than you can eat now? Save them for later by freezing or dehydrating.

Here’s where you’ll find great fruit-picking near you. Be sure to call your local farm for the latest operating hours and crop updates.
