3 ways the kids can help with Christmas wrapping

November 3, 2015

Let your kids help you with wrapping your gifts this year by finding a few easy ways to involve them. The recipients will appreciate their thoughtfulness, and your kids will learn about the joy of giving.

3 ways the kids can help with Christmas wrapping

1. Allow your kids to decorate

If you're using plain wrapping paper, your kids can help you make it look more exciting.

  • For example, they can draw on it or decorate it with stickers.
  • Your kids can also make ribbons using pipe cleaners, a piece of string, shoelaces or colourful yarn.
  • Another great way to decorate a present is to glue a paper snowflake on top of the wrapping paper.
  • Finally, don't be afraid to ask your children for suggestions; they might surprise you.

2. Let your kids do the writing

Not every kid enjoys drawing, but most kids enjoy labelling things. Why don't you let your kids take care of the writing this season?

  • Let them address your holiday cards, gift tags and Christmas cards. This might be a good opportunity to teach an older child how to write cursive to make it look fancy.
  • For younger kids, you may want to write the word on a separate piece of paper so they can copy it in their own handwriting.
  • Another option is to allow them to use alphabet stickers and attach them to the gift tag or to the present itself.
  • If the letters get jumbled up in the process, you can always pretend it was done intentionally to hide the present from its recipient.

3. Make your own gift wrapping

The hardest part about including your kids in a project is finding something they can do without needing a lot of help.

  • Letting your children make their own gift-wrapping is a great way to make the holidays more fun for both of you because it doesn't have to be perfect.
  • Your kids can use paper bags, old newspapers and other scrap papers that can be found around the house.
  • In order for your kids to have fun, the key is not to restrict them by telling them what to draw. They'll be more creative if you let them take charge.

Wrapping gifts together is a great way to do something nice for your loved ones and build lasting memories with your children.
