  1. Essential oils. Many people don't realize that essential oils such as coconut oil, tree oils, and even lavender can relieve the itch, pain and swelling of bug bites. Tree oil is an antibacterial agent that can help prevent infection from setting in when you scratch. You need to use only a little to begin with because some tree oils can be acidic. If it is too strong, you should dilute it with a little water.
  2. Lime or lemon juice. These citrus juices are powerhouses of antibacterial properties and itch relief. You need to make sure you only use these natural juices indoors, however, because in the sun, they can cause your skin to burn. You don't want to have to deal with burning on top of a ton of itchy bug bites.
  3. Milk and water. This is one of the oldest natural remedies. You simply mix half milk and half water in a bowl. Take the edge of a cloth and dab the milk and water mixture on the bites; the relief is instant.
  4. Basil. Unbelievably, basil can be used in more places than the kitchen. It has an ingredient called camphor that gives a cool feeling on the bites. You simply crush the leaves and put the bits directly on your bites to cool and relieve the itch.
