7 family-friendly snacks for Passover

November 3, 2015

Passover limits some food options, but there are still lots of great snack ideas that everyone, even kids, can enjoy. Check out this list for some delicious ideas.

7 family-friendly snacks for Passover

1. Macaroons

  • Sold in tins at your local grocery store, kosher for Passover macaroons come in a range of flavours.
  • They taste like soft, chewy coconut cookies. Even little kids will like the flavour.
  • Macaroons will fix a craving for some bread or sweets.

2. Matzo with almond butter

  • Forget about having a peanut butter sandwich. This Passover, make a sandwich using two pieces of matzo spread with almond butter (natural, without corn syrup).
  • Sprinkle a little agave on the almond butter, then press the matzo together.
  • Break this sandwich into little pieces for peanut butter cracker replacements.

3. Trail mix

  • The only nuts you can't eat on Passover are legumes, so mix together dried fruits like raisins, cranberries and apricots. Throw in some cashews, almonds and hazelnuts, then mix together.
  • This is a great snack to put in a plastic bag and send it to school with your kids.

4. Chopped veggies

  • Parents can't go wrong by chopping up vegetables and adding a dip for a healthy treat.
  • Buy a Kosher for Passover salad dressing, or mix up some with olive oil, vinegar and a little mustard into a vinaigrette. Then, have your kids dip the veggies in and enjoy.

5. Boiled eggs

  • They're a huge part of the Seder, and there's no reason why families can't enjoy eggs once the ceremonies are over.
  • Boil a whole carton and keep them in the fridge. That way, when anyone in the family is hungry, they can simply go to the fridge, pull out an egg, peel it and enjoy.

6. Turkey avocado rolls

  • For something a bit more filling and wholesome, make turkey avocado rolls.
  • Peel and pit an avocado, then cut it into slices. Then, take kosher turkey slices and wrap them around pieces of avocado.
  • The turkey and avocado pair well together for a rich, savoury treat.

7. Matzo pizza

For another hearty snack, make matzo pizza squares:

  • Cover the top of a piece of matzo with olive oil, spread on Kosher for Passover tomato sauce and sprinkle loads of cheese on the top.
  • Place this in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 176 degrees Celsius) for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and allow it to cool, then break it into pieces and enjoy like mini-pizza bites.

Some may think that Passover's dietary restrictions also remove anything tasty. But that simply isn't true. Your Passover celebration can be filled with delicious and simple treats that the whole family can love.
