One of the city’s original oyster bars, Embarcadero on the east end of 17th Avenue Southwest departs from its seafood focus on October 9 and 10. The restaurant in the converted redbrick mansion is a suitably homey place to enjoy a fine turkey dinner (takeout available). Free-range bird is served with accompaniments that include maple syrup and bacon Brussels sprouts, sausage apple stuffing, and garlic smashed potatoes. For dessert, savour apple raisin bread pudding with vanilla rum sauce.

This downtown hotel makes Thanksgiving dining easy as picking up the phone. Its Reserve a Bird pick-up turkey dinner serves groups of 12 to 22 people from October 8 to 10. Central to this customizable meal is a 15- or 22-pound bird served with a round of dishes and trimmings that includes glazed squash and root veggies, roasted rosemary potatoes, and corn, butternut squash and leek wild rice pilaf. Dessert includes both apple and pumpkin pies. A lengthy list of optional add-ons includes a 10-pound ham and extra stuffing.

Grey Eagle Resort & Casino

If variety is what you’re after this Thanksgiving, the buffet and restaurant at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino has it in spades (as well as clubs, diamonds and hearts). The centerpiece of the buffet is roasted turkey paired with traditional stuffing, pan gravy and, of course, cranberry jelly. Choose your accompaniments from Thanksgiving-themed dishes such as roasted pumpkin soup, golden beet salad and garlic potatoes as well as prime rib and Asian dishes. Desserts include fruit, cakes, pies and a chocolate fountain.

The quintessential Mexican meal, tacos are also a relatively scarce commodity in Calgary. However, we’ve done some digging and unearthed the select few restaurants that make truly marvelous versions of these hand-held snacks.
The city’s summer season features a delicious dance card of culinary festivals and events. Many, such as Stampede-time pancake breakfasts, are easy to access the day of, but the various tasting and tippling shindigs listed here can fill up quickly, so purchasing tickets sooner than later for these foodie festivities is recommended. The city’s pathway system is one of the longest in North America. Given its lengthy stretches, the occasional rest and snack stop, though few and far between, are a welcome sight when walking, biking and inline skating. Here are a few restaurants, cafés and snack shacks located on or near our scenic cycling system. Image credit: iStock.com/mihailomilovanovic.
