Fantastic French toast dishes in Calgary

Calgary loves breakfast, so it’s no surprise the diners around town move a lot of French toast. These breakfast joints are well known for their stellar approach to this morning meal standard.

A hit with café regulars, this Sunnyside coffee-and-cuisine spot serves salted caramel French toast that’s dressed with caramelized bananas, caramel sauce, cream cheese, a dollop of whipped cream and black lava salt.

Diner Deluxe

French toast is given the deluxe treatment at both this busy diner’s two locations. But don’t think for a moment that the fancy ingredients take away from the traditional comfort of this dish. Apple-flax sourdough bread is generously stuffed with brie, back bacon and rosemary syrup – to delicious effect.

Monki’s French toast is a breakfast dish of pure velvety bliss. Bread stuffed with banana and Frangelico cream cheese is slathered with Nutella and condensed milk. Pair with a side of Spolumbo breakfast sausage and you’re on your way to breakfast heaven.

OEB has built a well-deserved reputation as a decadent breakfast hut. This foodie street cred is built on sumptuous dishes such as the Gone Bananas, lovingly constructed of banana bread French toast heaped with berries, chocolate ganache and Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream.

An inner-city diner with two cozy locations, Red’s serves both a classic French toast and a hot rod version. The blueberry, basil and goat cheese stuffed French toast features a side of balsamic drizzle and blueberry coulis.

The quintessential Mexican meal, tacos are also a relatively scarce commodity in Calgary. However, we’ve done some digging and unearthed the select few restaurants that make truly marvelous versions of these hand-held snacks.
The city’s summer season features a delicious dance card of culinary festivals and events. Many, such as Stampede-time pancake breakfasts, are easy to access the day of, but the various tasting and tippling shindigs listed here can fill up quickly, so purchasing tickets sooner than later for these foodie festivities is recommended.
