Close your eyes when you step into Avenue Seafood and you might feel as though you are on the quayside in Nova Scotia. The beautiful smell of fresh fish evokes bobbing fishing vessels and the latest catch – so much so that it’s hard to believe you’re still in bustling mid-town Toronto and not a maritime paradise. Of course, Avenue Seafood is a paradise in its own way – a seafood foodie paradise. Since owners Winnie and Wilson Shao opened their doors in 1989, they’ve satisfied the appetites of the patrons who just can’t get enough of some of the best-quality seafood in the city.

It’s not just seafood fans that flock to the store each day; culinary establishments are in on it too. “We are renowned for our fresh smoked salmon,” says Winnie proudly. “In fact, we supply it to the Bonnie Stern cooking school.”
